The film is a beautiful and tragic portrayal of the exploitation of nature and women by greedy men. The film uses symbolism and metaphors to convey its message. The transformation of Cheluvi into a tree represents her loss of identity and dignity as a woman. The flowers represent her beauty and fertility, which are commodified and consumed by Kumar. The film also shows the contrast between the natural and the artificial, the rural and the urban, and the traditional and the modern. The film criticizes the destruction of nature and culture by modernization and consumerism.

The film is also a showcase of the talent of Girish Karnad, who was a renowned playwright, actor, director, and scholar. He was one of the leading figures of the Kannada cinema and theatre movement. He was also awarded the Padma Shri, the Padma Bhushan, and the Jnanpith Award for his contributions to Indian literature and arts. Sonali Kulkarni, who played Cheluvi, made her debut in this film and went on to become a successful actress in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films.

Cheluvi is a rare gem of Indian cinema that deserves more recognition and appreciation. It is a film that explores the themes of love, magic, nature, and feminism in a poetic and powerful way. It is a film that will touch your heart and make you think about your relationship with nature and women.
